Virgin Voyages, started by Sir Richard Branson and part of the Virgin Group, is one of the newer cruise lines and like everything Branson has done, it's different than any of the other cruise lines. The older I get the more I enjoy learning random facts so I'll start with a brief overview of Virgin Voyages and then we'll get into the fun stuff . Virgin Voyages was officially announced back in 2014 and was actually established as a joint venture between the Virgin Group and Bain Capital and the goal was to create a cruise line that would break away from the traditional cruise. In 2019 Scarlet Lady, Virgin's first cruise ship, was unveiled. Scarlet Lady's first voyage was in 2020 and since that time Virgin Voyages has added Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady and a fourth ship, Brilliant Lady, is set to be released in 2024.
Some of the ways Virgin is different than many of the major cruise lines are:
1. They are an adults-only cruise line, you wont' find anyone under the age of 18 on the ships!
2. They are smaller than the mega-ships that some of the other lines are releasing. All of their ships have a max of 2,770 passengers, which aligns with Branson's vision which was to create a yacht-inspired boutique at sea.
3. When you sail with Virgin, you'll find that many of the things you've gotten used to paying extra for are included with your cruise fare including wifi, gratuities and all restaurants and eateries.
4. Virgin Voyages does not have a main dining room or a buffet. All food is made-to-order.
5. Virgin Voyages is working extremely hard to promote Sustainability at Sea and everything they do revolves around this philosophy.
